  • Who Are We? This information has been supplied by the society.
    About the Society.
The Society was originally known as the Operatic Section of the British Legion (Congleton Branch) and "Iolanthe" was the first operetta to be staged in 1932. An annual show was presented every year, with the exception of the war years. In 1950 the society became Congleton Amateur Operatic Society.Productions were originally staged in the Town Hall but can now be seen at the Daneside Theatre in Congleton. The first production there in 1984 was "Brigadoon".

The Society was granted membership of N.O.D.A. in 1957 and celebrated its Golden Jubilee Year in 1982.

Although we are an amateur society, we always aim to produce a professional show, and we are delighted to have been nominated for seven N.O.D.A. North West Awards.(3 for "Carousel" in 2003 and 4 for "Crazy for You" in 2006).

    About the Membership.
At present there are approx. 50 members whose ages range from 16 to the more mature.Like many similar societies we often have a shortage of men!

    About the Audience.
